住友商事株式会社、複数の提携企業とカタールに2.4ギガワット規模ガス火力発電所を開発

日本の住友商事株式会社（以下「住友商事」）は、カタールのドーハ（Doha）近郊に2.4ギガワット規模のガス火力発電所を建設すると発表した。この発電所は、カタール送電水道公社（Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation：Kahramaa）が実施した国際入札を通じて、四国電力株式会社、韓国南部電力（Korea Southern Power社）及びKorea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation社と提携して開発されることとなる。
現在Facility Eとして知られている同発電所は、カタールのラス・アブ・フォンタス（Ras Abu Fontas）地区にある発電所跡地に建設される。同事業では、1日当たり49.5万トンの海水淡水化設備も併設される。住友商事によると、この発電所ではガス消費量が少なく、CO2及びその他の汚染物質の排出レベルが低い高効率なガスタービンが採用されるという。カタールはまた、この設備でのCCS計画も検討していく予定である。

Japans Sumitomo Corporation has announced that it will build a 2.4 GW gas-fired power plant near Doha (Qatar). The power plant will be developed in partnership with Shikoku Electric Power, Korea Southern Power and Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation, through an international tender organised by Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa).
The power plant, currently known as Facility E, will be built on the site of an old power plant in the Ras Abu Fontas area. It will also feature a 495 kt/day desalination plant. According to Sumitomo, the power plant will employ high-efficiency gas turbines that consume less gas and emit lower levels of CO2 and other pollutants. Qatar will also consider plans for CCS at the site.
