Woodside社とピルバラ（Pilbara）肥料工場、排出されるCO₂の地中貯留を検討

Woodside社及び肥料製造業者であるYara社が、同ノルウェー企業のピルバラ（Pilbara）工場から排出されるCO₂を海底下に貯留することを検討している。

豪州カラサ（Karratha）近郊のバーラップ（Burrup）半島にあるYara社工場は、年間150万トンのCO₂に相当するガスを排出しており、西オーストラリア州で7番目に大きな産業炭素汚染源である。

Yara社ピルバラ工場長（general manager）であるLaurent Trost氏が述べたところによると、CCSは同アンモニア工場及び近隣する火薬工場からの排出量を75％削減出来るという。

最終製品であるアンモニアは、ガスをCO₂と水素に分離させた後、水素を窒素と結合させることで生産される。

Woodside and fertiliser manufacturer Yara are looking to bury under the sea carbon emissions from the Norwegian company’s Pilbara plant.

Yara’s plant on the Burrup Peninsula near Karratha emits the equivalent of 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, the seventh-biggest industrial carbon polluter in Western Australia.

Yara Pilbara general manager Laurent Trost said CCS could cut emissions from the ammonia plant and its nearby explosives plant by 75 per cent.

Ammonia is made from splitting gas into carbon dioxide and hydrogen, then combining hydrogen and nitrogen to produce the final product.
