この新たな合意は、バリューチェーンの実現可能性をさらに高めることを意図しており、同2社が2024年10月に発表した共同検討の前向きな初期的成果に基づいている。

この新たな合意に基づき、株式会社INPEXは、中部電力株式会社と協力し、CO₂貯留に向けて名古屋港・豪州間のCCSバリューチェーンの主要要素について検討を継続する。この検討には、日本での積み込み、輸送、豪州での受け入れ等のバリューチェーンに沿ったCO₂輸送方法の最適化が含まれる。

この検討には、CCSバリューチェーンを支援するために必要な枠組みの実施に予想されるスケジュールを理解するために、日豪の法的・規制的状況の評価も含まれる。この共同検討の範囲は、CO₂バリューチェーンの実現可能性を引き続き高めていくことを目指している。

この新たな合意は、マレーシア・クアラルンプールで開催されたアジア・ゼロエミッション共同体（Asia Zero Emission Community：AZEC）の第3回閣僚会合にて紹介され、同地域で事業展開する企業間の協力例となっている。

INPEX and Chubu expand study on Japan-Australia CCS value chain

The joint study focusses on the feasibility of establishing a CCS value chain involving the separation and capture of CO₂ in Japan and its transportation from the Port of Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture to Australia for storage.

The new agreement is intended to further enhance the feasibility of the value chain and is based on positive preliminary findings of the joint study that the two companies initially announced in October 2024.

Under the new agreement, INPEX in collaboration with Chubu Electric Power will continue to study key elements of the CCS value chain between the Port of Nagoya and Australia for CO₂ storage. The study includes optimization of CO₂ transportation methods along the value chain such as loading in Japan, shipping and receiving in Australia.

The study will include an assessment of the legal and regulatory landscapes in Japan and Australia to understand the likely timeline for implementing the framework necessary to support the CCS value chain. The joint study scopes aim to continue to enhance the feasibility of the CO₂ value chain.

The new agreement was presented at the third Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) ministerial meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and is an example of collaboration between companies operating in the region.
