ブラジル経済社会開発銀行（Brazilian Development Bank：BNDES）がブラジル初となる商業規模のCCSを伴うバイオエネルギー（BECCS）プロジェクトへの融資を発表し、同国は炭素除去に向けて極めて重要な一歩を踏み出した。
BNDESは、BNDES Mais Inovaçãoプログラムの下、ブラジル・マットグロッソ州（Mato Grosso）の主要アグリビジネス・ハブの1つであるルカス・ド・リオ・ヴェルデ（Lucas do Rio Verde）にあるFS Indústria de Biocombustíveis社の旗艦トウモロコシ由来エタノール工場に恒久的CO2貯留施設を設置する支援として、3億8,430万レアル（約7,100万ドル）の融資を承認した。
同プロジェクトは、上記エタノール工場直下に位置するパレシス堆積盆地（Parecis Basin）内の深部塩水層にCO2を圧縮・圧入する専用の回収・貯留装置の建設を中核とする。従来のCCSと異なり、BECCSはCO2がバイオマス由来であるため正味炭素除去を可能とし、長期貯留が大気中のCO2を直接削減することとなる。

Brazil has taken a significant step into carbon removal with the announcement that Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) will finance the country’s first commercial-scale bioenergy with CCS (BECCS) project.
BNDES has approved R$384.3 million (~$71 million) under its BNDES Mais Inovação program to support FS Indústria de Biocombustíveis in deploying permanent CO2 storage at its flagship corn-ethanol plant in Lucas do Rio Verde, one of Mato Grosso’s major agribusiness hubs.
The project centers on constructing a dedicated capture and storage unit that will compress and inject CO2 into deep saline formations within the Parecis Basin, located directly beneath the ethanol facility. Unlike conventional CCS, BECCS enables net carbon removal because the CO2 originates from biomass, making long-term storage a direct subtraction from atmospheric levels.
