EVASTOCO2と呼ばれる調査の結果、閉鎖型地質構造内に約1.1ギガトン、地質学的トラップ外の貯留設備に3.6ギガトンのCO2貯留資源があると推定された。
2024年7月に発表された、CCUS部門発展に向けた戦略的行動構想の詳細を記した「フランスにおけるCCUS普及の現状と展望（The State of Play and Prospects for the Deployment of CCUS in France）」に続き、フランス・エネルギー・気候総局（Directorate-General for Energy and Climate：DGEC）は、フランス本土におけるCO2地中貯留の潜在的技術能力のインベントリを発表した。
このインベントリは、DGECの指導の下、フランス環境エネルギー管理庁（ADEME）の支援を受けて、フランス地質・鉱山研究所（BRGM）、AKKODIS社、フランス競争力拠点AVENIA、CVA社、GEOSTOCK社、フランス石油・新エネルギー研究所（IFPEN）、TEREGA社、TOTALENERGIES社及びフランス・ロレーヌ大学によって作成された。同インベントリの完成は、CO2の潜在的地中貯留能力に関する国別アトラスを発行するという、欧州ネットゼロ産業法（Net Zero Industry Act：NZIA）の義務にも合致する。
フランスは、短期的に同国排出ガスの最初の運用可能な貯留先となり得る北海及び地中海の貯留施設へのアクセスを容易にするため、欧州枠組及び二国間枠組の中でCO2貯留に取り組んでいる。CCUSに関するフランスの戦略は、2030年までのフランス本土における貯留能力開発を想定している。
Report: the technical potential for CO2 storage on French territory

The results of a study called EVASTOCO2 have estimated a resource of approximately 1.1 Gt of CO2 storage in closed structures and 3.6 Gt in storage units outside geological traps.
Following the publication in July 2024 of “The State of Play and Prospects for the Deployment of CCUS in France” detailing the strategic actions envisaged for the development of the CCUS sector, the Directorate-General for Energy and Climate (DGEC) has published an inventory of potential technical capacities for the geological storage of CO2 in mainland France.
This inventory was carried out by the BRGM, AKKODIS, AVENIA, CVA, GEOSTOCK, IFPEN, TEREGA, TOTALENERGIES and the University of Lorraine, under the direction of the DGEC and with the support of ADEME. The completion of this inventory also meets the obligations of the European Net Zero Industry Act (NZIA) to publish a national atlas on potential geological storage capacities for CO2.
In terms of CO2 storage, France is working within the European and bilateral framework to facilitate access to storage facilities in the North Sea and the Mediterranean, which are the first potential operational outlets for French emissions in the short term. By 2030, the French strategy on CCUS envisages the development of storage capacities in mainland France.
