Sulzer社とKEZO、廃棄物処理施設でスイス初のCO2回収パイロットを開始

Sulzer社は、スイス・チューリッヒ・オーバーラント（Zurich Oberland）の廃棄物有効利用サービス提供者であるKEZO と提携し、スイス初のCO2回収パイロット・プロジェクトをスイス・ヒンヴィール（Hinwil）にあるKEZOの廃棄物発電施設で開始することを発表した。
このイニシアティブは、2030年に計画されている新たな都市固形廃棄物焼却（MSWI）施設の建設に先立ち、KEZOの事業へのCO2回収技術の導入を評価することを目的としている。
MSWI施設では、リサイクルできない廃棄物をエネルギーに変換するが、その過程で大量のCO2が排出される。
既存のヒンヴィール・サイトに設置されることになるSulzer社のモジュール式CO2回収装置は、排ガスから年間最大1,000トンのCO2を除去する。
回収されたCO2は、地元の温室で利用され、資源の循環的かつ低排出な利用を示すこととなる。
このパイロットは、同技術の規模拡大に向けた重要な一歩となる。成功すれば、KEZOは新規施設にフルスケールのCO2回収システムを組み込む計画で、年間最大12万トンのCO2を回収できることとなる。

Sulzer has announced a partnership with Zurich Oberland’s waste utilization service provider KEZO to launch Switzerland’s first carbon capture pilot project at KEZO’s waste-to-energy facility in Hinwil.
The initiative aims to evaluate the integration of carbon capture technology into KEZO’s operations, ahead of the construction of a new municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) plant planned for 2030.
MSWI plants convert non-recyclable waste into energy, but the process emits significant carbon dioxide (CO2).
Sulzer’s modular carbon capture unit, to be installed at the existing Hinwil site, will remove up to 1,000 tonnes of CO2 per year from flue gas.
The captured CO2 will be used by a local greenhouse, showcasing a circular, low-emissions use of resources.
This pilot is a critical step toward scaling up the technology. If successful, KEZO plans to incorporate a full-scale carbon capture system in the new facility, capable of capturing up to 120,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
