日本郵船株式会社、1PointFive社と2つ目のCO₂除去クレジット購入契約を締結

CO₂回収・有効活用・貯留を専門とする企業1PointFive社は、日本の大手海運会社である日本郵船株式会社（NYK）がCO₂除去クレジットを追加取得したことを明らかにした。

これらのクレジットは、1PointFive社の直接空気回収（DAC）技術により創出される。この新たな契約は、「残余排出」と呼ばれるものの相殺を掲げたNYKの目標に基づいており、同社の長期脱炭素化戦略の推進に資するものである。

NYKが1PointFive社からDACによるクレジットを購入するのは2回目であり、排出量を完全に除去することが困難な産業において、CO₂除去への信頼が高まり、不可欠なものになって来ていることを示している。NYKの推計によると、国際海運は年間約10億トンのCO₂を生成するという。同社は、これらの排出量の約10％が効率向上対策や低炭素燃料への転換の実施後にも残るとした場合、年間約1億トンのCO₂を、CO₂除去技術を通じて除去しなければならないと主張している。

NYK Signs Second Carbon Removal Agreement With 1PointFive

1PointFive, a company specializing in carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration, revealed that Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), the Japanese shipping giant, has acquired an additional batch of carbon dioxide removal credits.

These credits will be generated via 1PointFive’s Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology. The new agreement is founded on NYK’s goal to offset what it refers to as “residual operational emissions,” helping bolster its long-term decarbonization strategy.

This transaction is NYK’s second purchase of DAC-enabled credits from 1PointFive, signaling growing confidence in carbon removal as indispensable for industries where emissions are hard to eliminate fully. NYK estimates that international shipping produces about one billion tons of CO₂ per year. If about 10% of those emissions remain even after efficiency upgrades and low-carbon fuels, they argue that roughly 100 million tons of CO₂ must be removed annually via carbon removal technologies.
