ノーザン・ライツ（Northern Lights）、ノルウェー沖で初のCO2貯留を実現

Northern Lights JV社は、ノルウェー領北海の沖合貯留サイトへ初のCO2圧入を行い、重要な節目を達成した。
CO2は100キロメートルのパイプラインを通じて輸送され、海底下2,600メートルにあるオーロラ（Aurora）貯留層に圧入された。「当社の船舶、施設及び坑井は現在稼働中である」と同社取締役社長（managing director）のTim Heijn氏は述べた。
Northern Lights社はCO2輸送及び貯留を提供する初の商業事業体である。その第1段階の施設は、ノルウェー政府のフルスケールCCSイニシアティブであるLongshipの一環である。初期顧客には、ノルウェー・ブレヴィク（Brevik）にあるHeidelberg Materials社のセメント工場及び同国オスロにあるHafslund Celsio社の廃棄物発電所、並びに、オランダのYara社、デンマークのØrsted社及びスウェーデンのStockholm Exergi社との商業契約が含まれる。
このEquinor社、TotalEnergies社及びShell社間の合弁事業は、2025年末までノルウェーの排出源からのCO2輸送及び貯留を継続し、2026年にはデンマーク及びオランダからのCO2を受け入れる見込みである。
3月に同社は、年間処理能力を150万トンから最低500万トンへ引き上げる拡張計画について最終投資決定を下した。コネクティング・ヨーロッパ・ファシリティのエネルギー分野（Connecting Europe Facility for Energy：CEF Energy）の資金支援を受け、このプロジェクトは陸上貯留タンク、ポンプ、新しい桟橋、更なる圧入井及び追加的CO2輸送船を増設する予定である。

Northern Lights JV has achieved a key milestone, injecting the first volumes of carbon dioxide into its offshore storage site in the Norwegian North Sea.
The CO2 was transported through a 100-km pipeline and injected into the Aurora reservoir, 2,600 m below the seabed. Our ships, facilities and wells are now in operation, said managing director Tim Heijn.
Northern Lights is the first commercial CO2 transport and storage provider. Its phase one facilities are part of Longship, the Norwegian governments full-scale CCS initiative. Early customers include Heidelberg Materials cement plant in Brevik and Hafslund Celsios waste-to-energy plant in Oslo, alongside commercial agreements with Yara in the Netherlands, Ørsted in Denmark and Stockholm Exergi in Sweden.
The joint venture between Equinor, TotalEnergies and Shell will continue transporting and storing CO2 from Norwegian sources for the rest of 2025, with volumes from Denmark and the Netherlands expected to follow in 2026.
In March, the jv took final investment decision on an expansion that will raise capacity from 1.5m tonnes per year to at least 5m tonnes per year. Backed by Connecting Europe Facility for Energy (CEF Energy) funding, the project will add onshore storage tanks, pumps, a new jetty, more injection wells and additional CO2 carriers.
