デンマーク・エネルギー庁（Danish Energy Agency）は、INEOS E&P社、Harbour Energy社及びデンマーク北海基金（Nordsfonden：the Danish North Sea Fund）が開発するグリーンサンド・フューチャー（Greensand Future）プロジェクトの一環として、同国エスビャウ（Esberg）の北西240キロメートルに位置するNini West油田をCO₂の地中貯留に利用することを承認した（デンマーク・エネルギー庁、2025年12月18日付）。このライセンスは、30年間にわたり最大240万トンのCO₂貯留に適用される。デンマークでCO₂貯留プロジェクトに許可が付与されるのはこれが初めてである。

デンマーク・エネルギー庁によると、「CO₂は、海底下1,700～1,800メートル地点にある、上部に複数の遮蔽層を持つ砂岩貯留層に貯留される。Nini West油田は、以前石油・ガス生産に使用されていた。CO₂貯留のため、以前石油・ガス生産で使用されていた既存施設Nini-Aが再利用される」という。

The Danish Energy Agency has approved that the Nini West field, located 240 km northwest of Esberg, may be used for geological storage of CO₂, as part of the Greensand Future project, developed by INEOS E&P, Harbour Energy and Nordsfonden (the Danish North Sea Fund) (Danish Energy Agency, 18/12/2025). The licence applies to the storage of up to 2.4 MtCO₂ for a period of 30 years. This is the first time that a permit has been granted for a CO₂ storage project in Denmark.

According to the Energy Agency, “CO₂ is stored in a sandstone reservoir 1,700-18,00m below the seabed, which has overlying layers of sealing rock. The Nini West field has previously been used for oil and gas production. For the storage of CO₂, the existing facility from the previous oil and gas production, Nini-A, will be reused.”
