米国陸軍工兵隊（U.S. Army Corps of Engineers）リトルロック地区（Little Rock District）は3月23日、Highland Pellets社から、隣接するCCSプロジェクトを統合したバイオマス発電所の開発に関する許可申請を受け取ったことを発表した。
Highland Pellets社は現在、米国アーカンソー州パイン・ブラフ（Pine Bluff）に位置する年間702,200トン規模ペレット工場を運営している。
米国陸軍工兵隊に提出されたこの申請は、米国水質浄化法（Clean Water Act）第404条（Section 404）に基づく米国陸軍省（Department of the Army）の許可に向けたものである。
既存のHighlands Pellets社施設は、既存の排出ガス処理工程の副産物としてCO2を生成している。同プロジェクトは、既存の産業インフラ及び新規設備を活用することで、このCO2を回収・圧縮・液化し、クラスVI坑井に貯留することを提案している。
Highland Pellets seeks permit for biomass power, CCS project

The Little Rock District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on March 23 announced it has received a permit application from Highland Pellets related to the development of an adjacent biomass power plant with an integrated carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) project.
Highland Pellets currently operates a 702,200-ton-per-year pellet plant located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
The application filed with the Corps is for a Department of the Army permit pursuant to Section 404 of the Clean Water Act.
The existing Highlands Pellets facility produces carbon dioxide as a byproduct of its existing emission control process. The project proposes to capture, compress, liquefy, and store this CO2 in a Class VI well through the use of existing industrial infrastructure and new equipment.
