Carbon Ridge社の遠心式船上CCS（OCCS）システムが商用船におけるパイロットで最高CO₂回収率98％を達成したことを、船級協会DNVが独立した審査で確認したことから、同社は海運の脱炭素化において重要な節目を達成した。

この検証は、DNVの船上CO₂回収システムの性能検証に関する推奨プラクティス（Recommended Practice）に基づいて実施され、遠心式OCCS技術が初めて海上で導入された事例となった。

このパイロットは、Scorpio Tankers社が保有する載貨重量トン数109,999トン（dwt）のLR2型プロダクト・タンカーであるSTI Spigaの船上で実施された。2025年7月にトルコのBesiktas造船所で行われた定期入渠中に設置されたシステムは、同船が通常の商業運航を継続する中で、5カ月間にわたって運用された。

DNVの審査によると、同システムは98％を超える最高CO₂回収率を達成し、記録された観測値の半数以上が、86～98％の回収範囲内に収まっているという。DNVは、結果を確認する前に、試験方法論、計算、性能データの評価及び妥当性確認を行った。

Carbon Ridge has achieved a major milestone in maritime decarbonization after an independent assessment by classification society DNV confirmed its centrifugal onboard carbon capture and storage (OCCS) system reached peak carbon dioxide (CO₂) capture rates of 98% during a commercial vessel pilot.

The verification was conducted under DNV’s Recommended Practice for performance verification of onboard carbon capture systems and marks the first maritime deployment of a centrifugal OCCS technology.

The pilot was carried out aboard the STI Spiga, a 109,999 dwt LR2 product tanker owned by Scorpio Tankers. Installed during a scheduled drydock at Besiktas Shipyard in Türkiye in July 2025, the system operated over a five-month period while the vessel remained in regular commercial service.

According to DNV’s assessment, the system achieved peak CO₂ capture rates exceeding 98%, with more than half of all recorded observations falling within an 86-98% capture range. DNV reviewed and validated the testing methodologies, calculations and performance data before confirming the results.
