Adani Group’s Ambuja Cements has entered into a strategic partnership with UK-based technology provider Leilac Ltd to pioneer a commercial-scale, low-carbon cement manufacturing pathway in India.

The joint demonstration project, hosted at the Sanghipuram plant in Gujarat’s Kutch district, is set to test advanced carbon capture technology alongside hybrid electric heating methods. The initiative directly tackles the cement sector’s toughest environmental challenge: process emissions.

Because a significant portion of the industry’s carbon footprint is inherently generated by the chemical reaction during clinker production, rather than just fuel combustion, specialized carbon capture technology is increasingly viewed as an indispensable tool for meaningful decarbonization.
