豪州低排出技術機構（Low Emission Technology Australia：LETA）は、世界最大級の一貫製鉄所である韓国の浦項製鉄所におけるCO2回収技術開発を推進するため、世界的な大手鉄鋼会社であるPOSCO社のN.EX.T Hubと提携し、348万豪ドルを出資する。
同プロジェクトは、POSCO社が計画している、CO2回収プロセスの拡大を目指したより大規模な実証に向けて、技術選定と運用条件のリスクを低減するように設計されている。
POSCO社は世界で6番目に大きい製鉄会社であり、豪州にとって単一で最大の輸出顧客である。2050年脱炭素化ロードマップ（2050 Decarbonisation Roadmap）では、2035年までに30％、2040年までに50％の排出量削減を目指しており、水素ベース製鉄といった長期的な技術が実用化されるまでの間、既存の高炉設備からの排出量を削減する上で、CO2回収が中心的な役割を担うことになっている。
LETA Commits $3.48M to Accelerate Carbon Capture At POSCO’s Pohang Steelworks

Low Emission Technology Australia (LETA) will invest A$3.48 million in a partnership with global steel giant POSCO’s N.EX.T Hub to accelerate the development of carbon capture technology at the Pohang Steelworks in South Korea, one of the largest integrated steel plants in the world.
The project is designed to de-risk the technology choices and operating conditions for a much larger demonstration POSCO is planning, which aims to scale up the carbon capture process.
POSCO is the world’s sixth-largest steelmaker and Australia’s single largest export customer. Its 2050 Decarbonisation Roadmap targets a 30 per cent cut in emissions by 2035 and 50 per cent by 2040, with carbon capture central to reducing emissions from the existing blast furnace fleet while longer-term technologies like hydrogen-based ironmaking are commercialised.
