China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) has launched an international cooperation initiative on carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), together with the International CCUS Technology Cooperation Organization (ICTO), the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Institute of New Materials and Energy Technologies at Nazarbayev University. The announcement was made on September 1 and 2, 2026 in Astana, Kazakhstan, during the 2026 International CCUS Technology Conference. The initiative calls for closer collaboration on CCUS technologies and standards, as well as stronger exchanges among industry professionals. It comes as carbon market dynamics shift elsewhere in the world, including in Europe, where the carbon price has recently fallen and the UK has delayed the extension of its scheme to the waste sector.
