Alfa Laval has been selected by Saipem, the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) contractor for Stockholm Exergi’s BECCS (Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage) project to supply heat transfer equipment for one of Europe’s largest bioenergy carbon capture facilities. The project is expected to begin operations in 2028 and will capture, liquify, and permanently store up to 800,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, representing approximately one to two percent of today’s total global carbon capture capacity.
Stockholm Exergi, a leading Swedish energy provider, is taking a bold step towards net-negative emissions with the first-of-its-kind large-scale BECCS initiative set to run at Europe’s largest biomass-based combined heat and power plant in Stockholm. When fully operational, the facility will capture and store CO2 from the combustion of biogenic fuels, where Alfa Laval’s heat transfer solutions will play a crucial role, maximizing system efficiency and heat recovery. The project is part of Sweden’s climate neutrality goals, contributing to the EU’s climate strategy and positioning Stockholm Exergi as an early adopter.
