日本郵船株式会社（NYK）、CO2除去に向けてClimeworks社と提携

Climeworks社は、2028年までに大気中からCO2を除去するため、3つの耐久性のあるソリューションを日本郵船株式会社（NYK）に提供した。同社にとってNYKは、日本初のCDR顧客である。
NYKは、バイオ炭（Biochar）、CCSと組み合わせたバイオマス発電、風化促進技術（Enhanced Rock Weathering）というClimeworks 社のCDRソリューションを利用して大気中からCO2を除去し、同社の残余排出の一部を除去する。このポートフォリオの構成は、企業はネットゼロ目標日までに長期的な貯留を伴う除去に移行する必要があるとする「ネットゼロに沿ったカーボン・オフセットに関するオックスフォード原則改訂版（Revised Oxford Principles for Net Zero Aligned Carbon Offsetting）」に合致する。
NYKの常務執行役員（Managing Executive Officer）でサステナビリティ戦略本部長（Chief Executive of Sustainability & Transformation Headquarters）でもある筒井裕子氏は、「NYKは、2050年までにスコープ1、2、3全体の温室効果ガス排出量ネットゼロを実現することにコミットしている。我々は、国際海事機関（International Maritime Organization：IMO）が最近発表した拘束力のある炭素価格を遵守すると同時に、削減が困難な排出量に対する追加的な解決策を追求するための取り組みを行っている」と述べた。
NYK partners with Climeworks to remove CO2

Climeworks has provided NYK with three durable solutions to remove CO2 from the air by 2028. NYK is the company’s first carbon removal client from Japan.
NYK will remove part of its residual emissions with Climeworks’ carbon removal solutions, Biochar, Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage, and Enhanced Rock Weathering, to remove CO2 from the air. The portfolio blend matches the Revised Oxford Principles for Net Zero Aligned Carbon Offsetting, which state that companies need to shift to removals with long-term storage by their net-zero target date.
Yuko Tsutsui, Managing Executive Officer, Chief Executive of Sustainability & Transformation Headquarters of NYK said, “NYK is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3 by 2050. We’re taking steps to comply with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) recent announcement of a binding carbon price and simultaneously pursue additional solutions for hard-to-abate emissions.”
