Petrobras社は2024年にサントス盆地（Santos Basin）のプレソルト層に1,420万トンのCO₂を再圧入しており、上記パイロットはこの記録的な年に続くものである。グローバルCCSインスティテュート（Global CCS Institute）によると、同社は既に世界最大規模のCCUSプログラムを運営しており、それは全世界のプロジェクトの約28％を占めているという。

Petrobras社のプレソルト生産プラットフォーム23基すべてには、石油増進回収プロセスと統合されたCO₂回収システムが装備されている。

新たなパイロットは、この実績を拡大するように設計されており、排出量を削減しつつエネルギー生産量を維持するという同社の戦略をより強固なものにすることとなる。

Petrobras Launches Tender for Brazil’s First CCS Pilot Project

Petrobras has announced plans to contract its first CCS pilot initiative in Rio de Janeiro state, marking a significant step in Brazil’s efforts to scale carbon management solutions.

The project aims to inject 100,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually, highlighting the company’s commitment to advancing decarbonization technologies.

The pilot follows a record-setting year for Petrobras, which in 2024 reinjected 14.2 million tonnes of CO₂ into pre-salt reservoirs in the Santos Basin. The company already operates the world’s largest CCUS program, representing about 28% of all global projects, according to the Global CCS Institute.

All 23 of Petrobras’ pre-salt production platforms are equipped with carbon capture systems integrated with enhanced oil recovery processes.

The new pilot is designed to expand this track record, reinforcing the company’s strategy to reduce emissions while sustaining energy output.

By launching the tender, Petrobras is signaling its intent to move beyond established large-scale operations and test new models that could support broader deployment of CCS across Brazil’s energy sector.
