米国石油協会（API）、CO2パイプライン輸送の新基準を導入

米国石油協会（American Petroleum Institute：API）は、急速に拡大するCO2パイプライン部門全体の安全性及び信頼性を強化することを目的とした新たな業界基準を発表した。
新たに発行されたAPI推奨慣行（Recommended Practice）1192（RP 1192）は、パイプラインによるCO2輸送のための性能ベースの指針を確立し、設計・建設から運営・保守管理に至るCO2パイプライン・システムの全ライフサイクルに対応している。
CCUSへの関心が高まる中、CO2パイプラインは米国のエネルギー・インフラにおいてより重要な部分になりつつある。デベロッパーは新システムの建設だけでなく、既存の石油・ガスパイプラインがCO2輸送に再利用可能かどうかの評価も行っている。
CO2パイプラインは既に米国連邦危険液体規制の対象となっているが、APIはこの新たな推奨慣行について、既存の基準では完全に対応していないCO2特有の物理的・化学的挙動に対応するものだと述べている。

The American Petroleum Institute (API) has released a new industry standard aimed at strengthening safety and reliability across the rapidly expanding CO2 pipeline sector.
The newly published API Recommended Practice 1192 (RP 1192) establishes performance-based guidance for transporting carbon dioxide by pipeline, addressing the full lifecycle of CO2 pipeline systems from design and construction through operation and maintenance.
As interest grows in CCUS, CO2 pipelines are becoming a more prominent part of US energy infrastructure. Developers are not only building new systems but also evaluating whether existing oil and gas pipelines can be repurposed for CO2 service.
While CO2 pipelines already fall under federal hazardous liquid regulations, API says the new recommended practice responds to the distinct physical and chemical behaviors of CO2 that are not fully addressed by existing standards.
