Presenters

Alex Townsend - Senior Consultant - Economics, Global CCS Institute

Alex is responsible for providing economic analysis and advice at the Global CCS Institute. He joined the Institute in September 2018 and is based in the London office in the UK.

Prior to joining the Institute, Alex worked in the UK Government for nine years as part of the Government Economic Service. During this time, he worked on a range of energy and climate change topics, including household energy efficiency, wholesale gas and electricity markets, climate change adaptation, and the rollout of smart electricity and gas meters. He also worked on trade policy and the assessment of applications for grant funding for large industrial projects during the early stages of his career in the UK Government.

Alex holds a BSc (First) in Economics from Cardiff University and MSc (Distinction) in Economics from Birkbeck College, London.

Angus Gillespie - Manager, European Affairs

Angus joined the Institute in 2018 and is based in Scotland. Previously, he was Vice President COfor Shell where he shaped many of the organisation’s CO2 related activities, including the use of internal carbon pricing, project design standards, carbon footprint measurement as well as external ambitions and, of course, Shell’s CCS strategy.  Ahead of the 12 years leading much of Shell’s renewables and low carbon activities Angus worked mostly in its upstream exploration and production businesses, and prior to that in a range of industries and roles including insurance, consultancy, transport and almost ten years in the power sector.

Angus is an Economics graduate from the University of Stirling and holds an MBA from Heriot-Watt University.

Guloren Turan - General-Manager, Advocacy and Communications

Guloren is based in our London office, with responsibility for the Advocacy team globally, including our international climate policy activities focused on the UNFCCC and its related bodies.

Guloren has extensive experience in the energy and climate fields. From 2015 to 2017, Guloren led the Government Affairs activities at the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline. Prior to this she held a number of roles over the course of 9 years at BG Group, including Head of Climate Change Strategy, Head of Business Risk for the Group and Lead Corporate Strategist. Guloren holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School of Government, an MBA from Cornell University and BSc Industrial Engineering from Istanbul Technical University.
